Maintaining
Induction

10

Points
per year

10

Minutes
of film produced

To maintain induction, Members must stay in good standing with their Chapter, earn at least 10 points through Chapter and film-related activities, and produce a minimum of 10 cumulative minutes of film in a major production role.

HSCA Staff annually audit a statistically significant number of students to ensure compliance with HSCA policies, increasing the standardization — and thus value — of being an inducted Member.

The exact requirements to maintain induction can be found in our Chapter & Membership Handbook.

Induction Requirements

Uninducted students, referred to as Associates, apply with their Chapter to become inducted, allowing each Chapter Director to tailor the induction process to the context of their school. Members should be active in their Chapter and community, regularly produce collaborative film work of reasonably good effort that is screened for others, and remain in good standing with their Chapter and associated academic institution.

Key criteria for induction:

01

Apply through your Chapter Director — induction is tailored to your school's context.

02

Be active in your Chapter and community.

03

Produce collaborative film work screened for others.

04

Remain in good standing with your Chapter and associated academic institution.

Opportunities for Growth

Beyond
Induction

The opportunities for growth within HSCA extend beyond earning induction into the Society. All HSCA Members grow — both as people and as filmmakers — through active participation in Chapter activities and the filmmaking process. Members may earn additional ranks, as listed in the Chapter & Membership Handbook, based on their work, making them eligible for additional scholarships and opportunities.

Most Chapters also typically have an Officer Team — consisting of a President, a Vice President, and up to three Officers — which assist the Chapter Director in governing the Chapter, facilitating activities, and maintaining Chapter records.
