About Us

HSCA is the only nonprofit honor society dedicated towards promoting and celebrating excellence in film production and education at the high school level. We have been proudly recognized as a 501(c)(3) charitable organization by the IRS since our inception; we are governed by an uncompensated Board of Directors.

Our Tenets

Our Mission

High school is a special time for filmmaking. With the right resources and guidance, students studying film gain far more than technical skills; they develop leadership, organization, critical thinking, and purposeful collaboration. Yet, while many academic disciplines have long benefited from dedicated honor societies, high school filmmakers and their teachers lacked such support. HSCA was created to fill that gap, championing film programs and empowering the next generation of storytellers.

Organizational Structure

The HSCA extracurricular activity at each school is called a Chapter. Each Chapter is governed by a Chapter Director (an educator or administrator) and, likely, a student Chapter Officer Team (typically made up of a President, Vice President, and up to three Officers) who organize activities for the Chapter and ensure compliance with all HSCA policies.

At a greater organizational level, HSCA is governed by an uncompensated Board of Directors, who oversee the activities of the President of the Society and his staff and craft a vision forward for the Society. The President of the Society leads all Staff in the day-to-day fulfillment of HSCA’s services and programs.

Zero Tolerance Policies

We promise to create and facilitate a safe, positive space for all of our Members, Chapter Directors, and Employees to work, learn, and grow. Discrimination, harassment, hazing, and other dangerous, hurtful behaviors have no place at HSCA. The following summaries articulate our commitment to our Chapters and Members. You can find our full policies in our Bylaws, linked above.
